Fabara is a small municipality in Zaragoza province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it was forced to issue its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after metallic coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation by late 1936. The Ayuntamiento issues were locally authorized under a Republican government decree permitting municipal bodies to print their own small-denomination notes to keep commerce functioning. Most were produced with whatever printing resources existed in the town — often rudimentary — and validated by an official stamp rather than any embedded security feature.

The Gari Morera catalog remains the primary reference for these Aragonese municipal emissions, and many carry significant rarity premiums simply because production runs were small and survivors few.
