Obverse description The obverse displays the host coin's reverse of the original João V Dobrão struck at the Minas Gerais (Vila Rica) mint, dated 1725 in the upper field. At center, a large ornate cross formed by four stylized M-monograms (for Minas) radiates outward, with a small countermark of a crowned Portuguese shield applied at the center intersection, serving as the Maria II revalidation mark of 1847. The circular legend reads IN HOC SIGNO VINCES in Latin characters.
