Reverse description A large ornate Cross of the Order of Christ occupies the center of the reverse, with four arms of equal length terminating in flared ends and small trefoil ornaments decorating the angles between the arms. Each quadrant of the cross contains a small floral or quatrefoil motif. The encircling Latin legend IN HOC SIGNO VINCES ('In this sign thou shalt conquer') runs around the periphery, divided by small star or cross stops. The overall design is bold and well-centered, characteristic of the milled silver coinage issued under Pedro II.
