Obverse description Central crowned Portuguese royal arms, featuring the traditional escutcheon with five quinas arranged in a cross pattern and a bordure of castles, surmounted by an ornate crown topped with a cross. Two quatrefoil rosettes flank the shield in the field, one to each side. The circular Latin legend reads MICHAELIS.D.G.PORTUG.ET.ALGARB.REX, distributed around the entire periphery. The coin's border is defined by a rope-pattern edge visible in the design field.
