Polemon I of Pontus was installed as king of the Bosporan Kingdom by Mark Antony around 14 BC, a political appointment that placed a foreign dynast over a region Rome needed stabilized but could not conveniently administer directly. His queen, Dynamis — granddaughter of Mithridates VI — carried the native legitimacy he lacked, which is precisely why her name appears alongside his on this issue. After Polemon's death in 8 BC fighting the Aspurgiani, Dynamis continued to rule in her own right, making the joint attribution of this type span two distinct political arrangements across its production window.
