Reverse description The entire reverse field is occupied by a ten-line Latin commemorative inscription in bold capital lettering, framed at the top and bottom by small decorative foliate ornaments. The text records that the Senate and People of Strasbourg (S.P.Q. ARGENTOR.) struck this piece on the first of November 1617 (CAL. NOVEMB.) in happy celebration of the new century and in memory of the divine restoration of religion one hundred years prior. The lettering is evenly spaced across the field with mid-dots separating words, typical of the formal epigraphic style employed on German civic commemorative issues of the early seventeenth century. No portrait, effigy, or subsidiary device appears; the inscription itself constitutes the sole decorative and documentary element of the design.
