| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the quartered coat of arms of Grand Master Antoine de Paule, combining the eight-pointed cross of the Order of St. John with the personal arms of the de Paule family, surmounted by a grand master's coronet. The numeral '3' appears to the right of the shield, denoting the denomination. The shield is rendered in a late mannerist style typical of hammered Maltese coinage of the early seventeenth century. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the circumferential Latin legend running between the inner and outer toothed borders. |
