Obverse description Quartered provincial arms of Utrecht with the small Utrecht city arms displayed at center, all superimposed over a floriated cross that divides a beaded inner circle. The arms and cross are rendered in the characteristic style of late sixteenth-century Dutch provincial coinage. The encircling legend runs along the outer field in Latin, separated from the central device by the beaded border. The overall design reflects the heraldic conventions adopted by the newly independent Dutch provinces following the Union of Utrecht.
