| Obverse description | Central crowned shield bearing a rampant lion to the left, set within an elaborate ornate cartouche frame, all enclosed by a beaded inner circle. The date 1627 appears above the shield, divided at center by the arms of the city of Utrecht. The overall design is characteristic of the Dutch provincial hammered coinage of the early seventeenth century, with bold relief and irregular flan edges typical of hand-struck production. |
