| Obverse description | At the centre of the mirror-polished proof field stands the Russian Federation's double-headed eagle, wings displayed, rendered in high relief against the dark background. The eagle is depicted without a shield on its breast, as used on Bank of Russia coinage of this period. The Cyrillic denomination legend ТРИ РУБЛЯ arcs across the upper portion of the coin, while БАНК РОССИИ curves along the lower portion, both separated from the central device by a fine beaded inner border. The date 2000 г. appears at the very bottom of the field, flanked by the fineness mark Ag 900 to the lower left and the mint mark ММД (Moscow Mint) with the weight indication 31,1 to the lower right. |

| Reverse description | The reverse presents a bold central design built around the stylised numeral '2000', in which the three zeroes are rendered as the three interlocking Olympic rings, each ring containing a depiction of an athletic discipline: a sprinter, a high-jumper, and a weightlifter, all in dynamic poses. Behind the numeral/rings composition, an outline map of Australia is shown against a globe grid, evoking the host continent. Below the central design a kangaroo is depicted in profile, symbolising Australia. The Olympic motto CITIUS ALTIUS FORTIUS appears in Latin across the lower portion of the central device, while the Cyrillic inscription XXVII ЛЕТНИЕ ОЛИМПИЙСКИЕ ИГРЫ occupies the upper field and СИДНЕЙ appears at the bottom of the coin. |
