| Obverse description | At centre, the two-headed eagle emblem of the Bank of Russia with wings lowered, set within a beaded circle. The upper arc of the legend reads «ТРИ РУБЛЯ» (THREE ROUBLES) and the lower arc bears the date «2004», all along the outer rim. To the left of the eagle, the metallic composition designation and fineness are inscribed; to the right, the fine metal content and the Moscow Mint monogram (ММД) appear in the field. |

Issued as part of the Bank of Russia's long-running series celebrating the architectural monuments of the Russian Federation, this piece commemorates the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo, Moscow — the parish church where Pushkin was baptized in 1799 and where the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church held services for much of the Soviet period, when the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour had been demolished by Stalin's order in 1931. Yelokhovo effectively functioned as the patriarchal cathedral for over five decades by default rather than design.
