Obverse description At centre of the mirrored proof field stands the double-headed eagle, the state emblem of the Russian Federation, depicted without a shield on its breast and with wings spread wide, rendered in high relief against the polished background. The denomination ТРИ РУБЛЯ (Three Roubles) arcs along the upper rim in bold Cyrillic lettering, separated from the central device by a fine beaded inner circle. The legend БАНК РОССИИ (Bank of Russia) appears below the eagle, with the date 2004 Г. inscribed at the bottom of the field. To the lower left the fineness mark АG 900 is struck, and the Saint Petersburg Mint monogram (СПМД) together with the weight indicator 31,1 appear to the lower right.
