The Armed Forces of South Russia — Denikin's White movement at its operational peak — issued this note during 1919 as the volunteer army pushed north toward Moscow. The VSYUR controlled significant territory that year, and with it came the practical need for a functioning currency distinct from Bolshevik issues. These notes circulated alongside a chaotic mix of regional, municipal, and occupation currencies, none of which the population trusted equally.

Denikin's financial administration collapsed along with the military campaign. By early 1920 the retreat to the Crimea was underway, and most of this paper became worthless within months of printing.
