| Obverse description | Printed in green on cream paper, the obverse carries the RSFSR state arms — hammer and sickle within a wreath — at upper left, flanked on both sides by large ornate numeral '3' vignettes set within elaborate guilloche rosettes. The central panel bears the Cyrillic inscription ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ ДЕНЕЖНЫЙ ЗНАК (State Currency Sign) above the denomination ТРИ РУБЛЯ in bold letterpress, with a statement that the note is secured by all the wealth of the Republic. Below, spaces for the signatures of the People's Commissar of Finance and the Cashier appear alongside two handwritten signatures. |

The 1922 RSFSR note issues were part of a transitional monetary moment — the old Soviet "sovznaki" system was hemorrhaging value at catastrophic speed, and the state printing works were running continuous shifts just to keep denominations relevant. By 1922, inflation had grown so severe that notes from just months earlier had become functionally worthless, and this series was itself superseded within a year by the chervonets-backed currency reform of 1922–1924 that finally stabilized Soviet money.
The watermark is among the few technical concessions to anti-counterfeiting in an era when the presses were more concerned with volume than security.
