Reverse description Central figure of Walther von der Vogelweide, the celebrated medieval Minnesanger, depicted seated three-quarter view and rendered in fine relief. The poet rests contemplatively with one hand raised to his chin in a thinking pose, holding an open manuscript or songbook, with a harp or lyre at his side and a sword resting against his knee. Two birds in flight appear to the right of the figure, alluding to his famous poem. A heraldic shield bearing a bird device appears to the left. The date 1930 is inscribed in the lower exergue, accompanied by the word PROBE (pattern/trial) to the right. The surrounding circular legend in Gothic blackletter reads WALTHER VON DER VOGELWEIDE, separated by decorative stops.
