Obverse description Central device depicts the Afghan national arms: a stylised mosque or mausoleum with an onion-shaped dome and flanking minarets, crossed flags on either side, all set against a radiant sunburst field. The arms are encircled by two wheat stalks forming an open wreath that extends to the lower field. Below the central device, the Afghan solar-calendar date in Eastern Arabic numerals (١٣١٦) appears on a ribbon, beneath which a scroll bears the legend in Arabic script. The overall composition is bold and deeply struck in the medallic tradition of the period.
