| Obverse description | Central field features the elaborate cursive royal cypher of Grand Duke Paul Frederick August of Oldenburg, composed of intertwined script initials surmounted by a grand ducal crown with arched bands and cross finial. The monogram is rendered in high relief with ornate calligraphic flourishes extending to the lower field. A circular legend arcs around the upper periphery, reading NFP G. H. OLDENB. F. BIRKENF., identifying the ruler and his territories. The entire design is enclosed within a finely executed dentilated border. |
