Obverse description Within a beaded border, the crowned royal monogram 'R·A' (for Rudolph August) is displayed prominently in the center field. A ducal crown surmounts the conjoined initials. The circular legend surrounding the monogram reads 'F. B. LU. L. MUN. RA', abbreviated titles of the duke, running along the inner edge of the coin.

Reverse description An imperial orb surmounted by a cross pattée with fleur-de-lis terminals occupies the center of the field, within a beaded border. The denomination numeral '3' appears below the orb. The date 1684 is divided to either side of the cross, with '16' to the left and '84' to the right, flanking the upper portion of the orb.
