Additional information

Louis Anthony of Pfalz-Neuburg served as Grand Master of the Teutonic Order from 1694 — but his administrative authority over Order territories began earlier, and coinage struck in his name during 1688–89 predates his formal election. The Order's mint at Mergentheim was the source of these small silver issues, produced during a period when the Order's finances were under considerable strain from ongoing campaigns against the Ottomans in which Teutonic knights still nominally participated.

Prokisch 207 is the standard reference for this type within the Mergentheim series.
