Obverse description Central field features the crowned quartered arms of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, displaying the alternating barry and rautenkranz (rue crown stripe) divisions characteristic of the Ernestine Saxon line, enclosed within an elaborate baroque scrollwork frame. The shield is surmounted by a ducal crown rendered in high relief. The coin exhibits the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage of the late 17th century, with a milled border visible around the coin's circumference.
