| Obverse description | Crowned interlaced cypher of Duke August the Younger of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, formed by the letter 'A', surmounted by an ornate princely crown. The date '1661' is split across the left field and the legend '10. APRIL' curves along the right periphery, commemorating the duke's birthday on 10 April 1661. The monogram is rendered in bold relief against a plain field, typical of mid-17th century German hammered coinage. |
