Obverse description Central field dominated by the arms of Marsberg rendered in an ornate foliate cartouche: an elaborate shield bearing the city's heraldic device, flanked by decorative scrollwork. The date 1609 is divided across the upper portion of the field, with '16' to the left and '09' to the right of the central charge. The design is executed in a late Renaissance hammered style typical of minor German municipal coinage of the early seventeenth century.
