The perpera was the gold coinage of the medieval Republic of Ragusa — the independent city-state centered on modern Dubrovnik — first struck in the 14th century and circulating through the republic's dissolution by Napoleon in 1808. Croatia's revival of the denomination is purely commemorative, with no historical perpera ever struck in silver-plated copper-nickel or in denominations of three.
