Reverse description Three stylised assegai spearheads arranged vertically and centrally in the field, their shafts twisted and tapering to sharp points at the base, dividing the date on either side. The denomination '3d' appears at the top of the design between the spearheads and the upper legend. The legend SOUTHERN to the left and RHODESIA to the right arcs around the periphery, with the designer's initials KG incuse at the base. The overall design was executed by George Kruger Gray in a bold, graphic style characteristic of British colonial coinage of the period.
