Southern Rhodesia's silver threepence series ran into a hard wall in the early 1940s: wartime silver demands and the administrative pressures of a self-governing colony contributing men and materiel to the North African and East African campaigns left little room for routine coinage. The .925 fineness held through this window, but the series would be debased after the war ended.
