Obverse description Laureate and draped right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Mary Gillick, occupying the central field. The Queen's hair is styled in a chignon with a wreath of laurel, and the bust is uncrowned in the classical tradition adopted for her first coinage portrait. A continuous Latin legend in raised letters runs around the periphery, interrupted at the top by a cross pattée. The design is framed by a fine beaded border.
