Obverse description Draped and crowned bust of King Charles I facing left, with a large crown above and a mantle of robes rendered in fine detail. A plume mintmark, distinctive of the Aberystwyth mint, appears to the left of the bust, with the Roman numeral III (denomination) to the right. The royal legend is inscribed around the effigy within a beaded border, the lettering separated by pellet stops in typical Caroline provincial style.
