Kaminoma (上野間村) was a small coastal village in Chita District, Owari Province — present-day Mihama, Aichi Prefecture. This note, denominated in monme of sake rather than coin, belongs to a category of hyper-local Meiji-era scrip issued by village headmen and merchants when the new government's currency reforms created acute shortages of small-denomination exchange. Osaki Jirouemon issued it under his own name and authority, a practice tolerated briefly in the early Meiji period before private and village-level currency issuance was suppressed.
Sake-denominated scrip is among the rarer commodity-backed formats in Japanese village currency. The monme here functions as a weight measure, not a monetary one, redeemable for rice wine rather than coin.
