Obverse description A fully armoured knight on horseback, charging to the right, thrusts his lance downward to slay a dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves; the horse's caparison bears a heraldic shield. The scene is rendered in high relief in a medievalising style and is enclosed within a rope-beaded inner circle. The circumferential legend in Latin script reads BEI GOTT IST RAT UND TAT above and SEGEN DES MANSFELDER BERGBAUES below, separated by two small cross ornaments at the sides. The mint mark A appears in the lower field near the exergue.
