Obverse description Conjoined busts of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst and his ancestor Carl August facing right, both in military uniform with epaulettes; Wilhelm Ernst shown in the foreground wearing a Prussian-style tunic with prominent shoulder epaulette, Carl August behind in a Napoleonic-era uniform adorned with a star decoration at the collar. The surrounding legend, divided by the two effigies, reads WILHELM ERNST MCMXV to the left and CARL AUGUST MDCCCXV to the right, with a beaded border encircling the entire design. The mint mark A appears discreetly at the base of the truncation.
