Obverse description Central device depicting the heraldic double-headed eagle of Lübeck with wings displayed, the eagle's two heads facing outward, each with open beak, surmounting a vertically striped escutcheon on its breast. The design is rendered in high relief with elaborate baroque-style foliate ornamentation at the base of the eagle. The circumferential Latin legend reads FREIE UND HANSESTADT LÜBECK, with the Berlin mint mark 'A' positioned at the bottom of the field between two pellets. The entire design is bordered by a continuous inner beaded dentilated rim.
