Reverse description The reverse of this pattern piece presents a right-facing bare-headed portrait of Friedrich August III, King of Saxony, virtually identical in design to the obverse, suggesting this is a uniface or double-obverse pattern trial. The effigy is rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail in the hair and facial features, including a moustache. The circular legend FRIEDRICH AUGUST KÖNIG V. SACHSEN runs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, and the mint mark E appears at the base of the coin beneath the portrait truncation.
