| Obverse description | Printed on cream paper with a fine wavy-line guilloche underprint, the note centres on a letterpress-engraved vignette of two putti — one kneeling atop a cube bearing the large numeral '3', the other standing and holding a balance scale — flanked by ornate baroque cartouches containing the winged Lion of St. Mark at upper left and the date '1848' at upper right.
