Frederik IV ascended the Danish-Norwegian throne in August 1699 following the death of Christian V, and this commemorative kroner issue marks that succession. Norway at the time had no independent mint operating at full capacity for commemorative work, and pieces of this type were struck at Copenhagen for circulation across both kingdoms.
Hede 35 is among the scarcer accession issues of the Oldenburg line. Danish-Norwegian commemorative coins of this period frequently survive in low grades due to handling at court distributions — they were presented, passed around, and pocketed, not preserved.
