Comments

Oberhollabrunn, a small Lower Austrian market town, housed one of dozens of internment and refugee processing camps the Habsburg administration scrambled to establish after 1914, as millions of civilians fled or were forcibly displaced from the eastern war zones — Galicia above all. The K.K. Flüchtlingsstation issued its own internal scrip because ordinary currency drained out of camp economies almost immediately; this blue paper 3 Krone piece was never legal tender beyond the camp wire.

Campbell 1598 is among the scarcer denominations in the Oberhollabrunn series. Camp scrip of this type was routinely destroyed or confiscated at the close of the war, and very little survived the post-1918 administrative liquidations.
