The portrait is rendered in a plain, unadorned manner without laurel or diadem. The circular legend surrounds the effigy, reading MAX. IOX. P. B. R. H. H. I. B. C. &., an abbreviated form of his full electoral titles in Latin.

Reverse description Crowned oval shield bearing the tripartite arms of the Electorate of Bavaria, combining the arms of Pfalz, Bavaria, and the imperial orb. The shield is encircled by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The denomination 3 K is divided by the shield on either side, and the date is split in two parts below the shield, with the legend LAND - MUNZ flanking the upper field.
