Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Ludwig I of Bavaria in right-facing profile, with naturalistically rendered curly hair, occupying the central field. The portrait is executed in a neoclassical style consistent with the work of engraver Carl Friedrich Voigt. A circular legend surrounds the bust, reading LUDWIG I KOENIG VON BAYERN, separated by the truncation of the neck at the base. The rim is defined by a fine inner toothed border.

Additional information

Bavaria's 3 Kreuzer denominations of this period were struck in billon at a fineness that barely qualified as silver coinage — a deliberate cost-saving measure as the kingdom managed post-Napoleonic fiscal pressures under Louis I. The .333 fineness was the floor permitted under the monetary conventions then governing the German states.

KM#747 saw production across six years without major design modification, which is consistent with Louis I's broader conservative monetary policy, even as he lavished state funds on his famous architectural transformation of Munich.
