Reverse description Central field features a decorative quatrefoil or multi-lobed ornamental frame enclosing the numeral 3, denoting the face value of three Kreuzer. The quatrefoil design is rendered in a late Renaissance style typical of Swiss cantonal coinage of the early seventeenth century. The surrounding legend NOSTRA EST+DEVS+SPES· +3+ proclaims the city's religious motto, 'God is our hope,' separated by cross and dot stops. The inscription runs continuously around the circumference within a plain outer border.
