Additional information

Solms-Lich was a small Protestant territory in the Wetterau that found itself increasingly squeezed between larger powers in the years immediately preceding the Thirty Years' War. Ernest II issued these small silver pieces during a period when the Reichskreis monetary system was under sustained pressure from debased coin flooding in from less scrupulous mints — the so-called Kipper und Wipper crisis was already taking shape at the edges of German commercial life before the war made it catastrophic.

The five-year span of this issue likely reflects production tied to specific fair-circuit demand rather than continuous minting, as Lich held market rights that required reliable small change.
