Obverse description Central field displays the quartered Saxon arms, featuring alternating barry of horizontal lines and diagonal striped quarters, surmounted by a royal crown with ornate mantling and drapery flanking the shield on either side. The escutcheon is rendered in fine detail with heraldic hatching typical of early nineteenth-century German coinage. The circular legend is divided to either side of the crown, reading S.COB. to the left and MEIN. to the right, referencing the dual territories of Saxe-Coburg-Meiningen. The overall design is executed in a restrained neoclassical style characteristic of the Thuringian states.
