Obverse description Central field features the elaborately intertwined crowned cypher of Tsar Nicholas I, rendered as a stylised Cyrillic monogram 'НI' surmounted by an Imperial crown. The monogram is executed in a bold, decorative script characteristic of the Nikolaevsky period. The entire design is set within a finely beaded border, with the field left plain to emphasise the majesty of the royal cipher. No legend appears on this face, the monogram serving as the sole identifying device.
