| Obverse description | Draped bust of Landgrave William VIII of Hesse-Cassel facing right, wearing a long curled wig elaborately rendered in the Baroque style, with lace cravat and armored cuirass visible at the truncation. The effigy occupies the majority of the coin's field and is rendered in high relief with considerable detail in the drapery and wig. The Latin legend WILH.VIII D.G.HASS.LAND.G (Wilhelm VIII, by the Grace of God, Landgrave of Hesse) curves along the upper periphery, divided across both sides of the bust. A finely milled border encircles the entire design. |
