Additional information

Adolphus Frederick III ruled Mecklenburg-Strelitz for nearly four decades, but the duchy remained one of the smallest and most financially constrained territories in the Holy Roman Empire. The 3 Gute Pfennig denomination sat at the fractional bottom of a coinage system already plagued by the proliferation of petty silver across dozens of competing German states, each issuing their own incompatible small change.

Kunzel's attribution to variety "a" is the detail worth noting here — Kunzel 570 documents multiple die marriages for this type, and the distinctions are subtle enough that misattributions in older collections are not uncommon.
