Gábor Báthori's reign over Transylvania lasted only six years before he was murdered by his own hajdú guards in 1613, the culmination of a rule marked by erratic brutality and failed military adventurism. He alienated the Saxon cities so thoroughly that Nagyszeben was effectively blockaded and stripped of its privileges — economic disruption that made the orderly production of small silver denominations like this gara both logistically difficult and politically fraught.
Resch distinguishes two varieties at numbers 57 and 58, likely reflecting output from different dies across the reign rather than separate mint sessions.
