The 3-euro denomination is unique to Slovenia, introduced in 2008 as a collector series celebrating national cultural figures — the face value chosen to correspond with the country's international dialing code. Matija Jama (1872–1947) was a central figure in the Slovenian Impressionist movement, trained in Munich and later closely associated with the Ažbe School, whose influence shaped an entire generation of Central European painters. This issue is part of a long-running annual series; individual subjects are selected by a cultural advisory process rather than open competition.
