Obverse description Three-quarter right-facing effigy of Philip the Good (Philippe le Bon), Duke of Burgundy, depicted in a stylized medieval portrait style wearing a characteristic flat-topped ducal chaperon hat and fur-trimmed collar. The legend PHILIPPE LE BON arcs across the upper field, with the birth and death years 1396 and 1467 inscribed in the right field. A decorative inner border of dashes frames the design, and a small engraver's mark appears in the lower left field.
