Wolfgang von Schrattenbach was appointed Prince-Bishop of Olomouc in 1711 and proved an energetic patron of the arts and religious architecture in Moravia — his episcopate coinciding with the full flourishing of Baroque building programs across the region. Multi-ducat presentation pieces of this type were not struck for circulation; they functioned as diplomatic gifts and personal largesse, distributed at court ceremonials or to mark significant ecclesiastical occasions. Production at this weight and fineness was deliberately conspicuous.
Fr#96 is among the scarcer Schrattenbach gold issues, with surviving examples concentrated almost entirely in institutional collections.
