| Obverse description | Bearded bust of Sigismund II Augustus facing right, wearing an ornate crown decorated with floral and scrollwork motifs, and a draped mantle visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the Renaissance style, with fine detailing on the beard and royal regalia. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, divided by asterisk stops, reading SIGIS*AVG*REX*PO*M*D*LIT, identifying the ruler as Sigismundus Augustus, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. The legend runs along the beaded inner border of the flan. |

| Reverse description | Central quartered coat of arms displaying the heraldic devices of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth: the Polish White Eagle occupying the upper-left and lower-right quarters, and the Lithuanian Vytis (armored knight on horseback) in the upper-right and lower-left quarters, with the Jagiellonian Snakeman (Wąż) shield at the center as an escutcheon. The achievement is surmounted by a royal crown. The date 1563 is divided to either side of the crown at the top of the shield. A circular Latin legend surrounds the composition, separated by stops, reading MO*AVRE*MAG*DUCA*LITVA, denoting this as the golden coinage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
