Reverse description A detailed panoramic view of the city of Basel as seen from across the Rhine River occupies the lower two-thirds of the field, depicting the city's skyline with prominent church spires, towers, fortifications, and the Rhine bridge, with a small boat visible on the water. Above the cityscape, a decorative arcade of eight heraldic shields representing the Swiss Confederacy and associated territories arches across the upper field. The inscription BASILEA appears prominently in the upper central field between the shield arcade and the city view. The date 1740 is engraved in the lower exergue within a decorative foliate border, with the mintmaster's initial H below.
