Obverse description Two elaborate baroque cartouches, each bearing a walking bear passant, are displayed side by side with their interiors facing inward toward the denomination numeral '3' in the lower central field. A crowned royal crown surmounts the junction of the two shields at the top, with a small mintmaster's letter 'B' visible below it. Decorative acanthus scrollwork frames the shields, and floral ornaments appear at the base. The circular Latin legend * MONETA * REIPVBLICÆ * BERNENSIS 3 runs around the periphery.

Reverse description Two semi-draped allegorical figures, one male and one female, are seated facing each other and jointly hold aloft a large draped banner or cartouche that fills the central field. Within the banner, the Latin devotional inscription is arranged in five lines, with the date at the foot. Rocky ground with naturalistic vegetation occupies the lower exergual area beneath the figures. The composition is rendered in high relief in a confident late baroque style.
